Las Fuentes Beach Alcocéber: Blue Flag Beach Guide

schedule2 minJanuary 6, 2026

Las Fuentes Beach in Alcocéber holds the Blue Flag award. Natural springs, golden sand, and full services just 600 m from Hotel Sancho III. Plan your visit.

Las Fuentes Beach: Alcocéber's Award-Winning Blue Flag Beach

Las Fuentes Beach (Playa de las Fuentes) is the flagship beach of Alcocéber and one of the most celebrated stretches of sand on Spain's Costa del Azahar. With its consistent Blue Flag status, natural freshwater springs bubbling up through the seabed, and a full suite of visitor services, it is the kind of beach that keeps families and couples coming back summer after summer. Best of all, it is just a 600-metre walk from Hotel Sancho III — roughly eight minutes on foot.

What Makes Las Fuentes Unique?

The beach takes its name from the underwater freshwater springs (fuentes) that seep up through the sand near the shoreline. These natural springs create cooler pockets in the water that children love to discover and that keep the water remarkably clean. Combined with gentle wave action and a gradual sandy slope, the result is a beach that feels tailor-made for families with young swimmers.

Beach Facilities and Services

Las Fuentes consistently meets the rigorous Blue Flag criteria for water quality, safety, and environmental management. Here is what you will find:

  • Lifeguards on duty throughout the summer season (mid-June to mid-September).
  • Accessible walkways and amphibious wheelchairs for visitors with reduced mobility.
  • Showers and foot-wash stations at multiple access points.
  • Sun lounger and parasol hire from local vendors on the sand.
  • Beach bars (chiringuitos) serving cold drinks, snacks, and seafood.
  • Public toilets near the central access ramp.

Water Sports and Activities

The calm, sheltered waters of Las Fuentes are ideal for a range of activities:

  • Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) — boards can be hired hourly from the beach.
  • Kayaking — paddle south along the coast towards the hidden coves of Sierra de Irta.
  • Snorkelling — the rocky edges at either end of the beach harbour small fish, octopus, and sea urchins.
  • Swimming — the shallow, gently shelving seabed is safe for children and confident swimmers alike.

The Promenade and Dining

A palm-lined seafront promenade runs the length of the beach, connecting to Las Fuentes Marina at the southern end. Along the way you will find ice-cream parlours, tapas bars, and sit-down restaurants with sea-view terraces. For a special evening, try the fresh catch of the day at one of the marina restaurants — just a 15-minute stroll from the hotel.

Best Time to Visit

Las Fuentes is swimmable from May to October. Peak season (July and August) brings the warmest water — around 25 to 27 degrees Celsius — and the liveliest atmosphere. For a quieter experience, visit in June or September when the beach is less crowded but the weather is still glorious. Early mornings and late afternoons offer the best light for photography.

Getting There from Hotel Sancho III

Walk south-east from the hotel for roughly 8 minutes (600 m). The route is flat and pushchair-friendly. No car needed — one of the great perks of staying at Hotel Sancho III. Our reception can lend you beach towels and provide a cool-box for drinks.

Insider Tips

  • Arrive before 10:30 AM in August to secure a good spot near the springs.
  • The freshwater springs are coolest in the morning — a refreshing surprise on hot days.
  • Sunset from the southern end of the beach, looking towards the marina, is spectacular.
  • Combine a beach morning with an afternoon by the hotel pool for the perfect lazy day.
